NYU Langone
Air Handling Unit (AHU) Replacement
Nelson Air provided Construction Management (CM) Services to remove an existing air handling unit (AHU) and replace it it with the install of a new 100% totally knocked down unit. Before starting the project, the existing unit was demolished, and temporary modifications with new ductwork for the existing roof mounted unit were completed. This project included demolition, concrete, waterproofing, masonry work, mechanical, electrical, and building management systems (BMS). The AHU that was replaced produced a 70,000 CFM (cubic feet per minute) airflow. Nelson Air extended the concert pad for the replacement unit, demolished the existing AHU, and rigged pieces of replacement unit through elevator shaft.

This work included demolition of walls and ceilings, concrete pads for equipment, structural steel additions to outside units, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, building management systems (BMS), waterproofing, roofing work, waste removal, cleanup, and laborers. Nelson also installed 10 clean steam generators and installed seven clean steam humidifiers for operationg rooms (OR). These items were installed and tested in compliance with NYU and did not impact any OR’s during tests or installation.
